Other users are travellers that need to send data one way every so often, say, once or twice a year. While it shouldn't be too much trouble to sync a 45kB Word document over a satellite or dial-up connection, copying a 50-1,000GB storage folder will take days if not weeks over dial-up. The first customers that come to mind are the many people without broadband Internet. Esssentially, IDrive Express is sneakernet with the addition of both cross-country delivery and cloud storage. The process works in reverse as well: give IDrive a week or two days notice (with a $99.50 expedite fee), and they'll upload all your files to a drive and send it back to you.

If you're away from your home base, and only have intermittent slow broadband, how do you backup hundreds or thousands of Gigabytes? IDrive Express is a physical data transfer service where you backup your PC or Mac to a hard drive, send the hard drive (pre-paid) to IDrive, they upload your files to your IDrive account, and then you can use the cloud storage as usual. Cloud backup is therefore appealing, but can be slow depending on your Internet connection. Cloud storage also has the benefit of being off-site storage, which can help disaster recovery in case your place of business is damaged by fire or burglary. Lately, cloud backup has become intriguing, since you can access those files from home, the office, or on the road. For all its benefits, centralized backup servers work best on LANs, rather than over the Internet. In between then and now, corporate IT departments have tried centralized server backup, with varying levels of success. In the beginning, all we had was local backup: First copying files to removable media like floppy disks and CDs in the 1980s, then copying your files over to a hard drive or tape drive in the 1990s-early 2000s.

If you find yourself in an area that doesn't have fast, secure Internet (no broadband) or if you feel that you just don't have the time to backup your system over the Internet due to the sheer number of files you have to keep, then IDrive Express gives you a secure way to send your files to a cloud-based backup. IDrive has both local backup versions and cloud-based backup, but IDrive Express is a service that merges the two.

Best Hosted Endpoint Protection and Security Software. It takes a little getting used to, but the controller has a certain kind of fluid accuracy that makes it a pleasure to operate. Related functions within a submenu can be accessed by moving the controller to the left and right or forward and back. Choose one of the four main functions via its respective physical button, and it's a breeze to scroll through a vertical list of items using the controller until it highlights the feature you want, then select it by pushing down. Maybe it's because we've gotten used to iDrive over the years, but we find the menu structure is very simple to navigate.
